Will we ever know what goes on inside an animals head?

People say dogs don't have the brain capacity to get bored as we understand it...ie, wanting to watch TV, or read a book...lol... but I have three very intelligent dogs, and I simply cannot get my head around the fact that they are happy with their lives...eat, p**p, lie on the rug, walk, eat some more, p**p some more, sleep.

We don't have the capability now but some day they may be able to trace all the neurons and model thought in a computer.  I wouldn't expect that in the next century but it seems like a likely area to focus research.

Yes, we now have brain imaging technology and such.  We can even know what dogs dream a little bit.
