Will we ever shake our dependence on fossil fuels?

Please don't go in depth with all the different alternative sources of energy and alternative fuels. Let's go beyond that and answer whether or not we as humans have the will to make the switch where fossil fuels only make up a small portion of our energy sources. Let's face it, we already have the technological capability.

  1. we depend on fossil ; and we should keep drilling

  2. If our "Environmentalists" that killed our Nuclear Program will allow it to go again, yes. No other known option that can provide the massive amount needed 24 hours a day.

  3. Yes we will switch and if we don't switch in 20-40 years, don't worry.  We will be dead within a century or 2 anyway.  We are currently experiencing a mass species of extinction 100 to 1000x greater than any previous extinction.  Less species diversity means lots of things including less oxygen (in the case of plants), greater rates of disease and transmission, and  natural disasters (linked to melting ice caps which is a cause of decreased species diversity but it's all cyclical).

Don't believe me?  Check for yourself.  It isn't a matter of will we shake our dependence.  It's a matter of will we shake it  or kill the polar bears and, incidentally, ourselves.

It isn't about asking if we will change.  It is about every individual pledging to make the right decisions and push for change.

  4. I'm sure we will some day.  I don't want to be forced into changing too soon, but when the right alternative comes along, we'll all jump on board.

Too bad no feasible alternatives have surfaced yet, but when oil supplies start running low in a few hundred years, we'll have something else to take its place.

But until then, we need to drill for it at home so we don't make all our enemies so rich and powerful.

  5. We will make the switch from fossil fuels to alternative sources of energy when we are forced to do so.

  6. Yes, we will.  It will be a long, slow process.  At the last minute, when there is no other choice, we will finally move on.

  7. Sure. Jay Leno has.

It will be a while and after a big struggle. I'm thinking closer to 100 years.

  8. I predict we will in 50 -100 years

  9. Sure, when we run out of fossil fuels!

As long as the energy and oil companies are making a big profit, and contributing large amounts to the politicians the government won't halt the use, and the companies are not about to bankrupt themselves.
