Question:

Will we have trouble renting a car in Illinois?

I am from Illinois originally and am 20 years old. My Husband is from Norway and is 34 years old (and yes he has an international drivers license). We've decided that he will rent a car because i will be charged an extra fee for being under 25. But the catch us, neither of us have any kind of car or health insurance because in norway (where we reside) we dont need insurance, the gov. takes care of it all! Will we still be able to rent if we purchase the insurance the car rental place has to offer? Will that be enough?

  1. No not as long as your have a valid DL and credit card, but since  you are not 25yrs. Your husband will need to rent the car, and you can  not drive it.

  2. You will have to buy their additional insurance( about $25/ day), or show proof that you are financially able to cover any accident you have.

I know Enterprise does not charge an under 25 fee. (under 21) So you may want to check with them. As far as the international license goes, it shouldn't be a problem.

  3. Most rental companies offer insurance. All you normally need is a credit card. I would advise calling in advance about the international license.

  4. I recommend you visit a nearby auto insurance agent to help. Since I live in Rhode Island I can't suggest an agent in Illinois, but here is an website that can help you. http://www.easyautoinsuranceguide.com/Il...

    Good Luck.

  5. Yes, he will be able to rent the car, from a major company like Hertz, if he buys their insurance.

You will likely NOT be allowed to drive it at all, because you're under 21.
