Question:

Will we still have global warming if we enter in a new mini ice age?

I read that more and more scientist are now saying that we are entering into a new mini ice age.

Will there still be global warming if we are in an ice age?

Could global warming cause an ice age?

IDK - It's so confusing at times.

  1. There's no global warming. We're having the coldest winter on record here in Ohio, and if there was global warming, than why are supposedly going to have a mini ice age?

  2. The Earth actually wobals on it's axis, and global warming and ice ages are simply inverse, yet natrual phenominon.  Global Warming causes the polar ice caps to expand, which is an ice age.  The The ice then reflects solar energy into the atmosphere warming it up, which causes the ice to melt, which is Global Warming. Neither are somehting to worry about, they are completey natural.

  3. Global warming is not a "hoax"

You're right to be confused, its an extremely complex topic. People who say they aren't confused (and arent experts) are not viewing the whole range of topics.

Basically you can either have warming or cooling, either is started by a 'tipping point', so when say an ice age starts, the factors which usualy warm the planet tend to cool it (such as decrease in insolation).

You can't have global warming and cooling occuring at the same time, unless its quite small and insignificant. One thing's for sure is that they will never 'cancel each other out' as you can see if you look at temperature graphs over millions of years.

Gloal warming 'could' cause an ice age, with factors such as increasing cloud cover and increased dry sand (which reflects sunlight well). If a so-called 'super-volcano' errupts, the ash in the atmosphere could also trigger an ice age.

There's no simple idea behind it, its a very complex topic.

Jennifer D, there will have been scientists in the mini ice age that occured between 1400 and 1900, but they just had far less technology. Even though technology wasnt around during the ice age, there are some very ellaborate ways of measuring past climate change.

Counterclockwise, if there were no scientists you would have a very primitive understanding of everything in life. You trusted them about gravity, so why don't you trust their beliefs on climate change? Its science, not politics.

Although climate change is "completely natural", we are the ones who suffer from the result of it. Even the smallest changes in temperature can have catastrophic impacts on mankind, which is why civilisations keep dying out when climate change comes about.

  4. Well you have to remember that there were no scientist during the ice age. they all make their estimated guesses on the tools they have invented and how they use them. I'm confused too. If Global Warming continues and the ice caps keep melting I'm sure, since I live in Miami,FL, that we wil be evacuated first. Now about the mini ice age, Global Warmning contributes to more fierce natural disasters such as more and stronger hurricanes, tornadoes, snow stroms. It intensifies mother nature in a very negative way for us humans.

  5. global warming is not going to be stoped over night. and an ice age won't help

global warming is from holes in the o-zone layer from rocket ships and from acumulating  greenhouse gasses  that trap the heat in.

  6. The name has been changed to Climate Change and yes the UN still wants our cash to stop it. I would settle for them to define terrorism before I support their views on global warming.

  7. It is more properly called climate change.  Some places will get colder.   England is as far north as Alaska so if climate change happens as many scientists think it will the currents will get messed up and England could get very cold.  Places like most of Africa and southern asia will get very hot

  8. Global WARMING. ICE age. I don't know about you, but I've never had warm ice before. Then again, scientists have been known to do/say crazy things,.....enough to confuse anyone. Especially if a "breakthrough" means a grant.

  9. the rise in sea levels will trigger a possible ice age because it will stop the gulf stream which sends war winds to euroupe and if that happens a mini ice age may occur which may also trigger a huge ice age.. its all about the balance and the cycle

  10. I think Global Warming is a Hoax.

If Al Gore was so concerned, why didn't he do anything about it when he was in office?

  11. Yes, because an "ice age" is simply one of the after effects of global warming and the gases responsible for causing that "ice age" are still present in the atmosphere.

  12. kofi d is correct.  Ice ages are a consequence of precession of the earth's which alters the amount of solar radiation warming the earth.  The present global warming is predominantly (>65%) due to greenhouse gases in the atmosphere released by man trapping more heat than they would naturally.  If the flux of solar radiation decreases by more than the excess warming caused by greenhouse gases, the earth will cool, and possibly enter an ice age.  If we have a mini ice age, the extent of cooling will be less than it would be naturally because the man-made greenhouse gas warming will still be present.
