Question:

Will weight play a factor in how easy it is to steal your motorcycle?

It seems two really strong men could simply pick up say, a Kawasaki Versys at 400 pounds to put it into the back of a pickup truck. However, a 700 pound + cruiser may require freeing up the steering from any locking system (chain, etc.) THEN rolling the cruiser up into a covered trailer, which would be very conspicious in a parking lot. Does anyone agree that a cruiser would be harder to steal?

  1. Greed drives crime. I'd say more often then not criminals involved with thefts on a regular basis plan crimes and with that they plan what they need to take based on the most money with ease a lessor priority.

In terms of a spontaneous theft I'd say your point has merit. More often it's what type of bike brings the most value and fits the profile of what people are stealing based on (greed). Insurance companies know and rate levels are directly related.

  2. You're obviously not a thief (and that's good).  Any motorcycle can be swiped in moments by a guy who knows what he's doing...my brother the cop hears about such thefts almost every time he stands for roll call at the beginning of his shift...and my cousin has had a full-dressed hog stolen.  He parked it and was away from it less than fifteen minutes and that suckah was G O N E  !!

  3. Depends on if they just hotwire the bike and drive it away. :) Of course it is physically more difficult to move a 700 lbs bike than a 350 lbs bike.

  4. depends....

if they're just gonna jump on it and drive it away, no..

if they have to load it up in anything else, of course.... although most likely it won't make much of a diffrence... it doesn't take much longer push a 50cc scooter up onto a trailer then it does to push a 1,100 cc crotch rocket....

don't just buy a heavy bike because you think it will serve as a detourant..... it won't... if someone wants to steal a bike and they see your bike when they happen to have this impulse, it will be gone, or you will catch them in the act... they won't just say 'oh that bike is too big' and walk on....

  5. NO...   pick it up throw it in the back ..... drive away

  6. I would think a moped can be picked up fast and thrown into a trunk, a honda gold wing couldnt be.
