Question:

Will withdrawing from a class affect my FAFSA (student aid)?

I currently have a "C" grade in my media planning class. I still have to do a project that I think I won't be able to get a good grade on, so my grade could drop to a D. I have A's in all of my other classes and I want to withdraw from the media planning class but since I have financial aid I don't want to lose that money. Can I still drop out of the class and still receive financial aid? I am enrolled full-time (15 credits) Any help will be appreciated thanks.

  1. As long as you attend at least 60% of the semester you will never earn money back regardless if you earn a failing grade at the end of the semester; however, it will cause your GPA to drop dramatically.  Double check with your admissions office about the drop penalty dates because it may be too late to drop with a W, and you could receive a WF which means you're basically getting an F in the class.  As long as you earn the required hours to your financial aid you will be fine.  We require student's to earn 75% of their hours which means 9/12 is required.  Ask what percentage you have to complete with your financial aid office and have them calculate it for you then discuss with your admissions office and professor about dropping with a W.

  2. To make sure that they won't take all your money away and that you won't get a bad grade, withdraw from the class. Making sure you get a " W" on your transcripts because a failing grade will result in them asking for the money back.

  3. You are supposed to be a full time student.  That's usually 12 hours.  Check with your financial aid office.
