  1. I've never done it, but a lot of people on my cross country team do yoga and they say it helps them stretch out and keep limber.

hm....but I'm the second fastest girl on our team....so each to their own, I suppose.

  2. Yes there quite a few athletes who have benefited from yoga or polates.

Works in the area of flexibility and strengthening and injury prevention.

I have not done it myself and generally would not suggest it to my athletes but if they asked me I would say do it if they have the time.

  3. This may sound crazy, but yoga and running have a lot in common. They both require practice, agility, flexibility, patience and your own breathing method. Runners who take up yoga often begin to love running even more.

It's all too common for runners to complain of shin splints, pulled muscles, aching knees and hips. Many of these (probably most of these) runners have put stretching very low on their list of priorities, calling it a waste of time. Truly flexible runners rarely injure themselves and benefit greatly from combining running and stretching, especially when they take advantage of the many benefits yoga offers.

Runners primarily work certain muscles, mainly in the legs and core. Yoga, which utilizes all of the body's muscles, including the often neglected stabilizers, makes the runner stronger and better functioning as a whole.

As runner, I do cross training, yoga is one of them.  It especially benefits runners to help with strengthening and to keep our muscles limber.

    Run happy and train smart:)

  4. i did not do yoga but some of my friends who did spring track went as a team once a week and did it.  they did a light jog before hand to loosen up there mussels..  it helped them to come more flexible so yes i believe it will help
