Will you be able to see the Lunar Eclipse in Argentina?

  1. Hi Serena!

    No.  The eclipse is not visible from Argentina, or from any place in the Southern Hemisphere, for that matter.

    Argentina has less than two years to wait for its own solar eclipse, though.  July 11, 2010, all of the country will see the solar eclipse.  Totality will on pass over Patagonia, unfortunately for most people, and even worse it comes at sunset on a winter afternoon.  Still, places in western Santa Cruz, including Calafate could see the total eclipse if they had a view of the northwestern horizon (which is unlikely with the Andes in the way).

    All the rest of the country sees a partial eclipse.  Sixty percent of the sun's disc is covered at sunset in Bahia Blanca, and progressively more the further south in Argentina you go.
