Why is the price of gas artificially linked to the price of oil? And how come cheaper prices are never passed on? Is this all just to protect their huge profit margins and keep shareholders happy? Or do you not mind helping Russians, Germans and the Spanish get richer..?

  1. The historical relationship between the price of oil to natural gas provides a ratio of about 7.5-1, so when oil is at about $130/bbl, natural gas should be about $17/GJ, but actually tracks at about $12/GJ, so it sould be worse.  If you are in Europe your helping the Russians, and if you are in the UK you are helping the UK, as all UK natural gas consummed comes from the N.Sea.

  2. I dont have gas supply to my home.

I thought about it a few years ago and I am now glad that I did not bother..

  3. I don't know how much £1000 is but my Exxon Mobil stock is doing really well.

  4. No, not how the dollar compares with foriegn currencies these days.

  5. probably, everything is increasing these days !!!

  6. In the 1960´s we were all told that because of the discovery of oil in the North Sea, by the 1990's we would all have lower fuel including gas. What ever happened to that promise. What ever happened to our cheap fuel.

Excessive obscene profits by oil companies and excessive taxation by our government has made OUR oil so expensive. That is the reason their are no cheaper prices being passed on.

  7. who cares, I have my bicycle ready

  8. We have been warned about this for a long time, its just caught up with us quicker than we thought and some bast@rds are jumping in and taking the last kill, simple because they can. We will have no choice but to pay for what we use and it won't get any better.

I can remember when I was a child waking up to frozen windows and icy air, I survived then and I will survive now, fortunately I still own some jumpers........It could be worse, you could be in ill health and starving too.........

  9. Not really fair to drag the Germans and the Spanish into it because they're not producers, just energy companies passing on the prices that the producers are demanding.

I'm living in Germany at the moment and am paying about double the gas and electricity prices that you are back home, so it's not just a problem in the UK.

You're right about the gas/oil link though - it's total madness and should be dropped.

  10. what choice do you have, the cons back before labour got into power where gonna build a load of new nuclear power stations but labour stopped it now all of a sudden there is a big rush to build them typical. you cannot win in this country, if you wont to build wind farms for energy people complain, nuclear power stations people complain, coal power stations people complain, tidal power stations people complain. we in this country are going to have to face the facts that we need renewable power at whatever the cost.

  11. It's not just the gas my British friend, it's the whole enchilada now!

Dairy, pork, wheat, sugar, spices, cotton, linen, polyester, wood, copper, alloys, rubber, all the plastics and your glass panes in the window have rose way above the ability of the average family to afford.

With the payments for the car, the maintenance of the car, the insurance of the car, plus the gas? If you drop the brand new automobile and put your money in the savings account that the car would have cost you in the course of the five year loan it takes to pay for the damned thing ............. you could save half the cost of a good house for a down payment to buy it!!

Get rid of the car and go buy a bike!

  12. Like the oil it`s being fixed to transfer billions of pounds of hard earnt money to a handfull of nasty greedy scum sucking gas companies
