A Government think tank says northerners should pack up and move south for a better quality of life...........So will any of the northern CE contingent be throwing off their clogs and cloth caps and joining their southern friends in the home counties struggling with mortgages the size of the national debt and traffic jams beyond belief?

No offence to either north or south but what a cheek! I bet theres a think tank to tell the swallows when its time to go south too. But on a brighter note if any of you lovely northern people would like a comfort stop on your epic journey pop off at junction 10 M6 and head for Shropshire its lovely here, and ill have the kettle on:)

How do you get a job on one of these 'think tanks'?

I'm a southerner but I'm sure most northerners will be deeply offended by such a stupid suggestion. My first reaction was to look at the dated to make sure it wasn't 1st April!

Our diversity is what makes the country so special.

Anyway, it would be very unkind to make their whippets uproot to a different location!

HA! I live down south, and I am deliberately choosing a Northern Uni to go to in 2 years time because the quality of life and affordability is so much better up there!!

EDIT: It don't get souther than me other than the Isle of Wight (Which I can see from the end of the road) and I dip my biscuits!!

No thanks I will stay up here. We have a lovely Muslim neighbour who is also a friend, and we go out with a Jewish couple every saturday night to a club where we meet my wifes Irish friends. Why would I want to leave here? But thanks for the offer. LOL

I cannot believe people get paid for such drivel as this - I have lots of Northern friends and I would not insult them in this way - sometimes I go North for a few days and sometimes they come South to see me and we like it this way thank you. ps I dip my biscuits

No i think i will stay up here DS however i don't have the old cloth cap but i always thought clogs were a dutch thing. Your welcome to correct my ignorance if i'm wrong.

They've got a cheek! The problem lies with lack of investment. Which is the government's fault.

In Germany where I now live, industries are spread out so in the South, in Munich you have printing and media, in Frankfurt in the centre it's finance, in Cologne to the west you have TV, in Berlin towards the east it's government and in the North the port of Hamburg.

The problem with England is that everything is centred around London. If England had more 'centres' then the standard of living would raise across the country. The trouble is, when the coal, steel and shipbuilding industries disintegrated they were replaced with.....nothing.

PS - And if you ever pass by Frankfurt, I'll have the kettle on too.

This is a conservative backed think tank..

If you thought Labour were bad i fear the conservatives will be no better.

I read yesterday they want to extend the powers of sureveillance to non-terrorist suspects. That means everybody!!
