I don't think it is gross at all. If you and your partner are comfortable with it then do it. I would not want to try it if my wife were in an uncomfortable phase of her period. I have heard people say that having intercourse during a period helped cramps and decreased flow. It really is an individual thing.

I would have a shower before having intercourse anyway, and so would my partner

I have done this once. To be honest, she asked me if it bothered here and I told her no, because when you're trying to have fun you're not gonna let something like that stop you. Honestly, I'd say it depends on whether it's a random hook-up or if it's someone you actually care about. If I just got to know a girl and she's trying to have s*x when she's on her period, I'd be disgusted ... but if you're like dating someone it's totally understandable ... not gross.It would almost be a good thing that she still wants to have s*x with you even though she's on her period.
