  1. YES YOU CAN GET AN OVER DRAFT FEE BY WRITING A CHECK OR MAKING PURCHASE WITH YOUR DEBIT CARD AND YOU DON'T HAVE SUFFICIENT FUNDS IN YOUR ACCOUNT.

THE FEE IS THE COST OF WHAT YOU BOUGHT WITH USUALLY A EXTRA $35 OVERDRAFT FEE.

TO PREVENT THIS WE BALANCE OUR CHECKBOOK AND TRACK OUR SPENDING.

  2. if you dont have enough in there yes. if you take out 100 you have to have that 100 in your account

  3. Yes, you will be charged an overdraft fee for using debit card when you have insufficient funds in your checking account.  The fee will be close to $30 (depending on where you bank).  Some banks like Washington Mutual (WAMU) allow one "free" overdraft per year.

You may want to consider setting up overdraft protection for your checking account.  Many bank allow you to link your savings account or credit card to your checking account as overdraft protection, however, there is still a fee charged if you have to use this service.  Banks will usually charge about $10 (as opposed to $30) for each overdraft if you set up the service.
