  1. Can not afford to ,guess I will walk, that is what the gov. wants.

  2. Never had one. I looked into getting one in 1990, but found out that the car companies manufactured them to get around automotive safety requirements. Sedans and station wagons had strictre safety requirements. The auto companies wanted bigger profits, so they invented a new category of automobile that was not covered by safety law, the SUV. They also boosted sales of pickup trucks, which also had more lax standards.

I went out and got a Volvo sedan, which lasted 15 years. After 9/11, I sat and thought about how the whole Middle Eastern political scene was a result of lust for oil and decided to stop sending my dollars in to those economies. I switched to a hybrid vehicle and now go to the gas station twice a month instead of once a week. Had nothing to do with money and everything to do with my personal safety and my politcs.

  3. I don't have an SUV, but I can tell you that fuel cost is only one of many large costs of owning and using a motor vehicle.  Gasoline will have to go a lot higher than five dollars per gallon before it becomes significant.

  4. No, I can afford it.

  5. gas prices will not reach 5 dollars a gallon for a long time if ever, so no

  6. I dont think most people without children understand SUV's.  We can fit 5 people, a giant baby stroller and 8 bags of groceries... and we do this quite often (Nissan Murano).  Before my child was born, we had a 2 seat Mazda Miata which required us to use 2 cars all the time with friends and family.

In a smaller car, my wife would have a harder time lifting the stroller in and out of the trunk as well as moving the child in/out of a car that is lower to the ground.

We also have plenty of room for diaper bags, emergency change of clothing, a cooler for milk, water and food, first aid kit, toys, etc.

We could buy a minivan but the MPG is about the same.  And actually, we got about the same MPG from the Miata since we drove it harder.

So to answer your question.  No.

  7. Well, lets see. You should. I did as soon as it hit 3.50. I mean even if you fuel it with the semi cheaper ethanol fuel. The amount of corn that went into your tank in that one fuel could feed one person for 365 DAYS, ONE YEAR!!!! Anyways we should all switch to smaller less fuel consuming cars.

  8. I drive a explorer and i am Def looking for something else......I really want a hybred but unfourntanly they are very expensive. Something needs to be done and soon! to many familys have to have SUVs to be able to go places as a family and most are like me and can not afford the hybreds (even though we would love to drive them) so for some people they have not choice!

  9. Got rid of the 2004 Dodge(12MPG City) truck about 18 months ago. Got me a bad455 little 2007 Volkswagen(25MPG City).

    Been smilin' ever since.

  10. I got rid of mine last year.My Toyota truck gets 30mpg,but fuel is to high.I'm lucky and have a old Mercedes diesel converted to run waste vegetable oil.

So my fuel cost a $1. a gal.
