Question:

Will you give up your car to save on gas money?

I was reading a blog today where the writer is planning to give up her car and do her local errands (shopping, etc.) by bicycle. And she has 3 kids! (at midwestmoms.blogspot.com)

What I want to know is, how much higher to gas prices have to go before people will be priced out of using their vehicles? Would commuting or errands by bike be something you would consider?

  1. No.  If I couldn't afford the gas, I wouldn't have bought the car.

  2. i live 40 miles from work, 5 miles from the nearest convience store, and 15 miles from the nearest actual grocery store. not driving is not an option for me. i am getting a tesla roadster next year, which will help alot. at current regular gas prices, i stand to save at least $2000 per year (assuming i take my 45 MPG motorcycle half the year and my 26 MPG sedan the other half). by the time i actually receive my car, it'll be saving me even more as gas will be more expensive

  3. No, i'll keep driving my truck.

  4. giving up my truck isnt an option

20 miles to work, only coworker near me likes to hit the bar after work and i dont drink so carpools out

    public transportation doesnt exist here

i got a second job to supplement the cost of gas

my homes paid for so im not moving

its the other stuff that is gonna get cut

i didnt get a golf membership at my course this year

    sat dish is gone

i keep my extra driving to a minimum

  5. No.  Life in America is based on the car.

For gas saving tips, look at the webpage listed below.

  6. I don't think it would be possible to give it up where I live, but I would definitely drive it less.  Actually, I already do.

  7. It depends on how much you are sinking financially and how much you need the car.

Even though i am in the city , the current gas prices is not discouraging ,me from getting my car soon. The time being wasted at the bus  stations and subway is no longer worth it.

A 10-15mins drive takes me 1hr or more by bus and subway when you add wait times at these stations. this is time that could have been spent doing something else.

I am sure if we examined our current lifestyle we will find somewhere we could cut some spending to divert it to gas.

For me i plan to start with my cable. I think regular TV is just enough. that is some $40 monthly savings for me( good gas money).

For one year since  i got my cable i have watched nothing but news  and regular TV on it so why continue to pay for it?

So look for your opportunity cost and do not be afraid to go take that step!!!!!

  8. i would not give up my car but i would park it if i had any other way to get around. there is no public tranpotion where i live and a cab would cost me more then the gas does. my husband is a welder and has to have is rig every day to make a living so theres no way he could park his truck. he spend at least about 200 to 250 a week on gas and that is if his jobs is close to home witch most are not. now add another 50.00 a week on gas for his welder. we all hate the gas prices right now but yet we all still have to make a living.

  9. No , I won't give up my truck for anyone.

  10. GAS WILL BE $10 PER GALLON SOON!

THE BUILDERBERG GROUP HAS BEEN PUSHING FOR $200 A BARRELL FOR OIL SINCE '05!!!

  11. I really don't think we'll have a choice as time goes on.  Make your choice,  move to the city and use a bike or public trans. ,  or move out rural,  learn to farm.  Hopefully another energy source is around the corner so our lifestyles don't change.

  12. HALF of the world's population enjoys fuel subsidies.

This estimate, from Morgan Stanley, implies that almost a quarter of the world's petrol is sold at less than the market price.

The cheapest petrol is in Venezuela, at 5 cents per litre.

That makes China's pump price of 79 cents seem expensive, but even this is a bargain compared with $1.04 in the United States and $2.35 in Germany (see chart).

    Stop bleating.

USA is one of the richest countries but pays less than half than the Europeans for gas.

Time to throw away the gas guzzling SUV's, V8's and get used to 1 liter engines or public transport.

What use is 150 mph on today's speed restrictions?
