Question:

Will you help me with Picture Day stuff?

Hi. I'm fifteen years old and I'm a girl. I'm wondering what ideas you have for my hair, makeup, and clothes on Picture Day.

Hair:

I have dark brown straight hair in between chin and shoulder length that's trying to grow out. It flips out at the bottom (instead of in like it was originally), and I have long front bangs that I now pin back (I'm trying to get them to grow back). For Picture Day, I am probably going to pull the fronts of my hair back and do two side French braids, with my bangs clipped to one braid. *My question about hair is, would it look good if I used a hair curler to turn the ends of my hair underneath as well?*

Makeup:

I don't usually wear makeup, but I do want to look nice for Picture Day. *The question I have about makeup is, would the following look good: light pink eyeshadow, pink blush, mascara, and pinkish/reddish lip balm?* (I think the Demi Lovato look is nice.)

Clothes:

I want something that will match my makeup. *My question about clothes is, would a cream-colored short-sleeved jacket, coral tank top (tucked into the next item), and black corduroy pencil skirt look good?*

Thanks for all your help! I really appreciate it.

  1. In a nut shell... on picture day, you should stay as absolutely "neutral" and "safe" as possible. Wear a plain colored shirt. Do NOT wear a shirt that has words on it (like a brand name), do NOT wear a shirt that has symbols/prints on it (stripes, the Nike swoosh, etc) and do NOT wear a shirt that shows your bra straps. Also, no turtle necks. Anything else is safe. Wear MINIMAL accessories. Remember pictures from the 80s where people wore big scrunchies and c**p?? Yeah, that's what you're trying to avoid. So wear your hair down, style it as close as you can to how it naturally is, and DO NOT WEAR ANY HAIR ACCESSORIES. If you wear jewelry, wear simple earrings (studs or very small hoops) or a simple necklace. "Picture day" should NOT be confused with "fashion day." Wear makeup if you want, but don't wear blush, and don't wear any colors, except for (you guessed it) light, neutral colors. A small amount of mascara will make your eyes pop, and maybe even a little bit of eyeliner, but make sure you practice applying both before picture day arrives. Say no to lipstick. Seriously. Brush your hair right before your picture is taken, and smile :)
