Does getting a speeding ticket while driving a boat have an affect on your general driving record...as if you were given a ticket for speeding in a car?

  1. Check local laws, some states do, but most don't. Also, insurance companies do not check records as often as you might think.  Don't ask........ Most states however, do list "DUI" charges against you, whether it's on the road, water, or sidewalk.

  2. Yes.

  3. It does depend on where you live, since traffic laws are a local (state, provincial, etc.) responsibility.

I haven't heard of any jurisdictions that do tie boat usage laws to vehicle driving laws any more than they do for snowmobiles, ATVs etc. Although it's a good idea, it probably wouldn't stand up in court -- too easy to argue that one has nothing to do with the other.
