Will zonealarm block others from seeing my ip address?

i dont like the idea of my ip address being available. will zonealarm prevent this? i used to have it and it was always lighting up and beepin n that. had to be doin sumthin

Your IP address is the only thing visible.

Basically, it tells the internet page you want to visit just where to send the information to.

If it were not visible, you would not be able to use the internet at all.

As the other user said, the TOR project is a good alternative - but at a cost - slowing down your surfing a bit.

Just knowing the IP does not really help much, especially if you have a firewall that checks incoming and outgoing connections like ZoneAlarm.

Just make sure you have an anti virus program as well, and you should be good to go :)

ZoneAlarm only controls what programs talk to the Internet, and if other computers can see what "doors" (ports) are open in your computer.  It cannot hide your IP address.

IP addresses are difficult to hide, because it is required to pass information to your computer. It is the address of your computer, just like your mailing address.  

You can mask your IP address by using TOR, which is a free program put out by the Electronic Freedom Foundation.  It makes all data coming to your computer go through a series of encrypted connections so that the destination does not know your IP address.  It does slow your Internet down a little, but it will give you a good deal of privacy.  The URL for it is below.
