Willa B Awesome favoured to win the Melair Stakes at Hollywood Park
The 3-year-old filly trained by Walther Solis, Willa B Awesome, has started the new campaign as well as her connections would have imagined after her full of stakes, long 2011 season as a juvenile.
Owned by Phil Daniels, Patsy London, Terry Lovingier, and John Winters, Will B Awesome as a 2-year-old raced started from April last year and ended her season in December, with 9 races on the trot with only two victories to show for.
Though, she did finish 5 times on the money, but she was lacking that killer instinct to put the race to bed each time she was on chase mode in the stretch. But this year around, Willa B Awesome is a changed filly altogether, and she has shown that in just
three starts so far.
The California bred daughter of Awesome Gambler, Willa B Awesome kicked off her 2012 season with a magnificent win in the Grade 3 Santa Ysabel Stakes over the Santa Anita Park’s dirt course.
Running in her first graded stakes race, Willa B Awesome was stretched out in distance from seven furlongs to 1 1/16 miles, and she relished the extended race as she defeated Killer Graces and Lady of Shamrock in a single race, who finished second and third,
respectively.
Stayed at Santa Anita, Willa B Awesome was pointed at the Grade 1 Las Virgenes Stakes, with a cut back in distance to 1 mile, Willa B Awesome couldn’t calculate the run right as she finished 4th to winner Eden’s Moon, and second place finisher
Reneesgotzip.
It was time for revenge on the greatest stage, as the top two and the fourth place finisher of the Las Virgenes Stakes met again in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Oaks.
Out of Nineeleven mare Cause I’m Tricky, Willa B Awesome posted a magnificent win in the 1 1/16 mile feature at Santa Anita on 31 March, 2012, and in the process downed Reneesgotzip  in second and Eden’s Moon in third, with the winning time of 1 minute and
42.47 seconds.
She is now pointed toward the $300,000 Melair Stakes on an All Weather track again 3-year-old California bred fillies at Betfair Hollywood Park at 28 April.
