  1. yes

  2. they would if the oil companies would stop extracting hydrogen from oil

yes 96% of hydrogen we use comes from oil

    4% from electrolysis

  3. It's not likely that hydrogen is the wave of the future, it's not even an energy source, it's a way to store energy. It takes energy to create it from water or natural gas, the two main methods, more than can be gained by using it in a fuel cell or by combustion. If it could be made more efficient and a safe means of producing it as needed by a vehicle could be devised, it could be made available. But Honda will use a storage tank for hydrogen and it isn't a great idea to carry around a big tank of combustible gas, as the Hindenburg proved pretty convincingly.

Honda is only leasing these cars, $600 a month for 6 years I think, since the price for the car is so high they don't want to even mention it publicly. Well over $100,000 I'm sure. Electric cars using new lithium-ion batteries that don't leak hazardous chemicals are probably going to be fueling the next generation of cars, though hybrids will be around for some time for longer trips.

QSI Quantumsphere has a nano-material that they claim boosts the efficiency of turning water into hydrogen and oxygen to 85%. If that could be implemented in a car design you could conceivably run your car on little more than a tank of water and batteries, producing the hydrogen for a fuel cell or combustion only as you need it instead of hauling around a big tank of it. But even that efficiency may not be high enough. If QSI is right, hydrogen would be a good way to store electricity from solar power to use during dark hours and cloudy days as well. The problems with storing and transporting gaseous, liquid and metallic hydrogen are probably too great to lead to widespread use in our lifetimes but an on-demand system using electrolysis is more feasible.

  4. Actually, it will be years before hydrogen cars will become mainstream, if ever.

First of all, the cost of such cars are prohibitive for the masses; these cars cost $1 million and it will take significant volume of production for the cost to drop.

Secondly, the driving range of the hydrogen cars are limited and much less than the gasoline cars.  Currently the hydrogen storage tanks are bulky and heavy, which limits their capacity.

Thirdly, for hydrogen cars to become mainstream, there has to be an infrastructure in place; meaning that we need hydrogen fueling stations throughout the country.  This is somewhat a chicken versus the egg issue due to economics.  There is not enough demand from hydrogen cars for hydrogen fueling stations to be profitable and people will not be buying many hydrogen cars until there are sufficient number of hydrogen fueling stations.

It is difficult to transport hydrogen so it is likely that the first hydrogen fueling stations will create hydrogen on location by equipment that converts natural gas to hydrogen.  Thus, the hydrogen cars are not going be petroleum-free or a purely "green" product in its initial stage of development.

If anything, it is likely that hydrogen vehicles are most likely to catch on in form of buses and local trucks.  They are bigger than cars and their size will permit them to hold more hydrogen fuel.  Also, the service yards of the bus companies and trucking companies could have their own hydrogen fueling station for daily refueling and not be dependent on third party hydrogen fueling stations.

  5. If you live in California you might be able to get one in five years.  Who knows how long it will take for the rest of the world.

  6. hydrogen fuel cars are not millions just maybe up to 90,000$ standard as of now, due to use of carbon fiber bodys( less weight to push around) but by the way cars are become more diever getting fuel from biofuel(least) hydrogen(med) ion batteris(Most) from the plugs and every thing check out the CHEVY VOLT!

  7. no.

honda is leasing them, not selling them.

you don't want one, because there isn't a hydrogen station near you.
