William Buick lands a massive victory with Camborne in the Duke of Edinburgh Handicap at Royal Ascot
The John Gosden trained, Camborne, is on a hat-trick, and he might as well achieve it in his next start, but his performance in the Duke of Edinburgh Handicap at Royal Ascot on 23rd June, 2012, was beyond incredible.
Mounted by William Buick, the four-year-old gelding enjoyed the status of race favourite, and performed the way he was expected to over the 1 mile, and 4 furlongs distance.
William Buick’s brilliance was on display, when he guided the son of Doyen, out of mare Dumnoni, and tugged him to the front of the pack, where he crossed the wire ahead of the J. E. Hammond trained, Hammerfest, by 2 ½ lengths.

Gosden was incredibly pleased with the performance of Camborne, as he appreciated the owner, Her Royal Highness Princess Haya Of Jordan and the effort put into the horse as he commented:
"They (Sheikh Mohammed and Princess Haya) are great owners and breeders and I was delighted with William, who had lost the armband (for leading rider) to Ryan (Moore, before the race). He rode a beautiful race - it was chilly to come from last, but
he got the job done."
The winning jockey also shared John Gosden’s delight and told the media:
“John said when I came into the paddock that I was on a favourite and I should ride him like one - with bags of confidence."
William Buick’s talent is not to be under-estimated, and he proved himself at the Royal meet when he guided five runners to victory, three of them were under the ownership of Princess Haya of Jordan including Camborne, Newfangled and Joviality.
Newfangled, trained by John Gosden, winner of Group 3 Albany Stakes, defeated, Agent Allison, by 2 ½ lengths.
Joviality, who claimed the victory in the Group 2 Windsor Forest Stakes, downed the Sir Henry Cecil trained, Chachamaidee, by a neck.
The other winners include, Gatewood, who claimed the Wolferton Handicap, and Fallen For You, Gatewood’s stablemate, who triumphed in the Group 1 Coronation Stakes.
Both of these runners are under the wing of, John Gosden.
