William Gallas off to Juventus

William Gallas looks set to join Juventus after Arsenal released him last weekend.

Gallas was out of contract, and with Arsenal only offering him a one-year deal and a wage decrease, the Frenchman refused to sign. Juventus are reportedly offering him close to €3million a year on a two-year deal.

Yesterday, Gallas’ agent Etienne Mendy met up with Beppe Marotta, the man responsible for Juventus’ transfers, with the meeting branded as a success. The 32-year-old has had a controversial career at Arsenal - in 2008 he was stripped of the captaincy by manager Arséne Wenger after outbursts criticising the team.

Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood said the club will not be willing to meet his high wage demands, stating “money doesn’t grow on trees.”

Gallas is currently on World Cup duty with France, and is not speaking to the media in a protest against France coach Raymond Domenech after he overlooked him for the captain’s armband.

A deal is expected to be completed in the next few days.
