William Gallas says Samir Nasri's post-game snubbing was shameful
Tottenham Hotspur captain William Gallas has spoken out in an interview with
The Sun about what he thinks about Samir Nasri refusing to shake his hand at the end of Tottenham's 3-2 win over Arsenal in Saturday 20 November's North London derby.
"Yes, Nasri snubbed me but I think that he's still young, you have to understand him," Gallas, who is 33, said of 23-year-old Nasri. "It's a shame that he reacted this way. Yes, let's just say it's a shame for him."
Gallas, who played four seasons with Arsenal and made over 100 appearances, received a hostile welcome from fans at the Emirates. The reaction from Arsenal supporters did little to faze him.
"I knew it would be like this. But when you are a professional player you should expect this kind of reception. I actually found that the fans were kind to me, considering I played four years there."
Gallas and Nasri have reputedly been on the outs with one another since 2008 when the two had a falling out while on international duty with France.
Nasri responded to the incident and has questioned Gallas' loyalty by saying,
"There are always ups and downs in life but I have a lot of respect for the way a player stays loyal to his club. I cannot see myself going and joining the sworn enemy. There are loads of other clubs, other clubs in London.
But going to Tottenham? No I cannot see it at all."
Gallas is one of only 15 players to ever play for both clubs, and one of only seven players to ever play in a North London Derby match at least once for each club.
The win on the weekend not only gives Tottenham a big boost when it comes to pride, it also gave them a big lift in the Premier League table as they look to once again qualify for a Champions League spot, and now have 22 points from 14 matches.
