William McGirt to feature in PGA Championship
The last couple of weeks have been extremely lucky for William McGirt. His stars are shining brightly currently. After a second place finish at the RBC Canadian Open, he has now earned a place in the last major of the year, The PGA Championship.
After two back to back top-five finishes, he is earning laurels for himself. His recent performances mean that he is guaranteed a place on the PGA Championship for the next season.
At the True South Classic and RBC Canadian Open, he showed the quality and character to be labelled as PGA Tour Winner.
“I think it shows me No. 1 that things are starting to come together, and the work is paying off,” said McGirt, now the 200th ranked player in the world. “It shows me that I can compete out here on regular basis and I can win on this tour”.
At the RBC Canadian Open, William was leading by two shots with four holes to go. William experienced a sudden dip in concentration and therefore, lost his first PGA Tour title.
He bogeyed thrice to give up his lead and ended up finishing second.
William must thank Keegan. It is because of him that he is playing in the PGA Championship. Keegan was already in the PGA Championship field, going into the Bridgestone Invitational, his victory opened up another spot and William was the next in line.
It has been good news at home as well for William and his wife Sarah. They are soon expecting the birth of his first child. “I can set my schedule now and don’t have to worry about a reshuffle,” said McGirt
There is one big advantage for McGirt, Kiawah is his home town and he will be seeing many familiar faces. This will help him in settling the nerves early on the course.
“I can’t think of a better place other than Pinehurst for to play my first major,” said McGirt, who tees off on No. 1 at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. “I am very excited. It will be close to home, and a ton of people there that I know”.
