William Porterfield guides Warwickshire to a comfortable win
A thunderous half-century from Irish skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 on Friday, June 3rd, 2011.
The hosts posted a decent total of 161 runs in their innings, but http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warwickshire-c862 didn’t find any difficulties in chasing it down, as they did it in 17.5 overs.
Toss was won by the visitors and they decided to field. The decision proved to be a correct one, as the pitch eased out with the passage of time.
However, the conditions were not difficult at all for the team batting first and they did a decent job.
Yorkshire got off to a blazing start, as their openers, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Gale-c1039 and Jonny Bairstow piled up 53 runs from just 23 balls before the latter got out after adding 11 runs to the total.
Gale was in sensational form, scoring 54 runs from just 25 deliveries with the help of nine fours and one massive six. He was unfortunate though, getting run-out after giving such a strong start to his team.
Although Gale got out after scoring his half-century, it looked as the hosts would comfortably take their score closer to 200.
However, things didn’t go http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yorkshire-c867’s way, as the lower-order failed to make most of the platform laid by the top-order batsmen.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Anthony-McGrath-c45053 were the other two batsmen to cause a few problems for the bowlers, scoring 33 and 28 runs in their respective outings.
They failed to capitalise on their starts though, losing the momentum towards the end of the innings.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Darren-Lee-Maddy-c52471 turned the game in his team’s favour after picking up three quick wickets in just the two overs he bowled. He didn’t give many opportunities to the batsmen to score runs as well, as he conceded only 10 runs.
Warwickshire didn’t get an ideal start to their innings, as they lost opener, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Neil-Miller-Carter-c79145 and Porterfield.
Both players put together 71 runs for the second wicket partnership, guiding their team to a strong position. Carter got out after scoring 27 runs, but the Irish player kept on hurting the opposition bowlers.
Porterfield’s innings came to an end after he reached 64 runs from 34 balls with the help of 10 fours. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rikki-Clarke-c85428 played unbeaten cameos on 26 and 21, guising the visitors to victory in the 18th over.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gordon-Muchall-c1499 support from the other bowlers.
