So I have a couple of questions about Turner...

Where did he do most of his artwork? What are a few examples?

What was the most distintive/ different thing about him?

  1. JMW Turner travelled extensively around Europe but the majority of his work was completed in Britain, especially at Otley in Yorkshire and in West Sussex. Some examples (and my own personal favourites) would be

"The Battle of Trafalgar as seen from the Mizen Starboard Shrouds of the Victory"

"The Fighting Temeraire tugged to her last berth to be broken up"

    "Eruption of Vesuvius"

"The burning of the House of Lords and Commons"

Controversial in his day, he is now seen as the first step towards Impressionism - Monet was to study his techniques. A master of both oil and watercolour he is often called the painter of light.
