William Walker claimed the sixth stage of the Tour of Tasmania 2012
William Walker of Team Drapac Professional Cycling wins the sixth stage of the Tour of Tasmania after his heroic performances during the event.
He took a total time of 2 hours, 3 minutes and 34 seconds to restrict his major opponents and climbed the top podium position.
The 26-year-old helped his team with the third road victory of the race after Darren Lapthorne and Lachlan Norris’ success earlier.
"That was one of the hardest stages I’ve done, and it’s probably because I didn’t have the ideal preparation," said Walker.
"But there’s a few of us in the Drapac team who have got a lot of experience and I did a lot of racing years ago, before my comeback, and I think that helps".
Jai Crawford of Team Genesys Wealth Advisers Professional Cycling, Blair Windsor of Team Budget Forklifts, Nathan Earle of Team Genesys Wealth Advisers Professional Cycling and Chris Jory of Team GPM-Wilson Racing achieved the next four positions in the respective order.
Luke Ockerby of Team Budget Forklifts, Samuel Horgan of Team Felt NZ, Luke Fetch of Team Search2Retain and Blain Windsor of Team Budget Forklifts succeeded during the first, second, third and the fourth sprints of the race.
Lachlan Norris of Team Drapac Professional Cycling extended his overall lead to 11 seconds after his 13th place finish during the race.
Matthew Clark of Team Jon West Cycling, Nick Aitken of Team Jayco-Apollo-VIS, Calvin Watson and Nathan Earle claimed the first four climbs of the event while Blair Windsor of Team Budget Forklifts won the Aggressor award during the Tour of Tasmania stage 6.
Mark O’Brien of Team Budget Forklifts is holding the second spot with Nathan Earle of Team Genesys Wealth Advisers Professional Cycling, Jay McCarthy of Team Jayco-Apollo-VIS and Darren Lapthorne of Team Drapac Professional Cycling claimed the third, fourth and the fifth positions respectively.
