William - nickname Liam?

Hi - do you like the name William for a boy? Nickname Liam?

Nickname Liam?   Prolly not unless you are wanting to use it for a stage name, like Will.I.Am.   If someone is named William, peers especially will usually go with Willie, or Bill, or sometimes just Will.

However, YOU can use the name Liam, and not mention the full name is William unless asked, or on legal records, school records, medical records, tax forms, etc.

I think the name William will get nicknamed Will rather than Liam and unfortunately there is not a lot you can do about it when they start going to school and such.

I actually just prefer the name Liam so I would just call him that  if you are going to use it most of the time anyway.

Yes. I really like William for a boy. It's one of those names that really grows with a child. My younger cousin is named William, nickname Liam. He has been called Liam his entire life, up until he turned 13 and suddenly wanted Will instead.

Child-Liam/Billy/Willy

Teen-Liam/Will/William

Adult-Will/William/Bill

that prob wont work because most people dont pronounce the -liam part of William like Liam!!!!!!!!!!! Try Will, Willy, Bill, Billy

I absolutely LOVE the name William! Such a great name! I think though that as children grow up friends and those around them make up their middle names for them. The nickname my friends have for me is completely different than the one my family has for me. If you like Liam I think you should just call your child Liam because you never know what nickname he could get in school like Wills, Will, Willy, Wally, Lee, Liam... the list goes on with that name!

I really like the name William for a boy. I think that it is a classic name and that it never gets old. And I think that Liam as the nickname is really really cute!

That is my dads name.  his nickname was billy or billy.

William is a great name for a boy, its one of the classics. ;) Liam makes an adorable nickname, though I also think it makes a nice full name.
