Williamhill.com English Greyhound Derby – Friday results

Charlie Lister stole the headlines once again on Friday night as the first round of the williamhill.com English Derby commenced. It was Lister’s Fear Zafonic who put on a show for the crowd at Wimbledon as he clocked an excellent time of 28.83secs across the 480m.

The 2009 English Derby runner-up couldn’t match the time of kennelmate Bandicoot Tipoki, but all credit goes to him for remaining consistent throughout the course of the competition, he is now the joint favourite to land the Derby, and can be backed at 12-1.

Racing at Wimbledon was put back ten minutes due to road delays affecting trainers, but shortly after 7pm all were reported to have arrive safely.

Trainer Carly Philpott’s Scottish Derby hero Nambisco ran in the last heat and was quick away from trap three (4.78 sectional) to take the early lead and cross the mark in 28.71secs. Nambisco is a big player and is the only runner who stands a chance of landing a £1m bonus from Bettor.com if he can go on to win the English and Irish Derby. So far the competition is favouring Charlie Lister’s pack but Nambisco may have other plans.

Second round draw is noon Sunday. Seeding changes can be made up to and including the third round draw. The second round is next Friday and Saturday.
