Williamhill.com greyhound Derby second-round previews

Heat One

MOVEIT JAMIE (nap) is moving in the right direction and went about his work well in the first round when coming from last to first to beat Micky Robbie. The manner of the win suggests there is more to come from him and the wide trap draw runners have been largely successful at the new track at Wimbledon so far. Eye onthe Tempo, for Mark Wallis, ran a close third last week and should be in the thick of things again. Romeo on Air also is better than his poor performance last week showed and can also qualify for the third round.

Heat Two

In a tight heat where every runner broke the 29-second barrier in the previous round, the reliable WESTMEAD SCOLARI can continue his good form from the Scottish Derby to land the spoils. The selection was slow away last time out and still qualified pretty easily so an improvement could be expected here. Lenson Duo won his first round race at a big price and his sectionals suggest he can poach an early advantage. Beaming Dilemma seems to be improving with every race and can stay on late in the day to grab third.

Heat Three

BROADSTRAND BILL is back in the groove following a dip in form and can continue his unbeaten run in the competition. The draw has worked out well for the wide seed, with the slow starting November Weather outside him and the selection can grab the advantage at the first bend. Romeo Surfer has been running well of late and can continue that form, whilst Judical Pause can also qualify for the next stages.

Heat Four

FEAR ZAFONIC (nb) was simply awesome when setting a very high standard in the first round, clocking a time of 28.38secs. He has, however, drawn a tricky heat with three other winners from the first round lining up. But Charlie Lister’s charge is certainly living up to the pre-Derby hype and he can leave a high-class field trailing in his wake to continue his scintillating form. Droopys Flo Jo is probably the biggest danger to the selection and would be a heavy favourite in most of the evening races, which shows the dominance of Fear Zafonic in the market. Krug Ninety Five stayed on strongly last week and can also keep his Derby dream alive.

Heat Five

LENSON BOLT is better than his recent run suggests and is taken to land the spoils in an ultra competitive heat. He found trouble after being slow away last time out and finished a long way behind Eye Eye Pickle, who is drawn on his outside in this race. Thirteen lengths seems like a big margin to turnaround but the selection showed in the trial races he has ability to complete the feat. Tyrur Speedy is a good early mover and can also progress to the next round.

Heat Six

BAREFOOT BULLET showed his class when landing his first round heat in a time of 28.49secs. He runs the track superbly well and is likely to prove very hard to beat in this race. Droopys Joe has attracted a lot of interest in the first round and delivered with an impressive performance, despite sleeping from the traps.  Glenard Sunrise ought to qualify as well.

Heat Seven

Mesedo Blue has long been considered the perfect Wimbledon competitor by his trainer Seamus Graham, but he may find one too good here with the fast starting MINISTRY MAGIC given a peach of a draw from trap one. The two other inside runners are notorious slow starters and the selection can repeat the feat of his first round performance and grab the rails early on. Tyrur McGuigan can also run well from the wide seeding.

Heat Eight

BANDICOOT  TIPOKI, who set the track record in the first round,  has been given a tough draw from trap two with Westmead Bond on his outer. But his rivals lightning start in the previous round may have been a flash in the pan, so the danger to the selection looks minimal. Bandicoot Tipoki is one of the most reliable trappers in the game currently and it would be a huge shock if he crashes out here. Along with Westmead Bond, Swift Planet should profit from a plum draw in trap one also to qualify.
