Heat nine

More is expected from Moneygall Obama, but looks a risky betting proposition considering the middle draw. It is not hard to see him being sandwiched between the dogs either side of him in the run up to the first bend. Preference is given to SLICK SAPPORO who missed the break in first round but ran on impressively behind Tyrur McGuigan, he’s no superstar but has enough in the locker to take this heat. Lyreen Mover loves it round Wimbledon and can also qualify for the next round.

Heat 10

CRAIGHALL HORSE gives the impression that he should have too much class for his rivals in the softest heat of the evening. Baring accidents at the first bend the selection should out-trap the other wide seed to grab the initiative early on. He will prove hard to catch. Blonde Button has a profile to suggest a big run is not beyond this dog, but has flattered to deceive so far. Sleeping Urban can make up the three.

Heat 11

All eyes will be on TEN LARGE DOWN (nap) in this heat. The Racing Post Juvenile winner was impressive in the first round and expect another exhibition of brilliance tonight from an identical trap draw. The rest of the field failed to break the 29 second barrier last week and have got a lot to find to trouble the selection. Greenacre Josh may need a bit of luck in running, but is capable of a bullet like break from the traps, he and Deanridge Ammo get the tentative nod to qualify.

Heat 12

You have got to feel for the connections of each dog in this race, four winners and two second-placed (both beaten by a short-head) from the first-round races line up in an ultra competitive heat where three will crash out. FOREST BOSS chased home Fear Zafonic in his first round race, clocking a time of 28.59secs, the sixth quickest ever run at the track, a repeat of that should just be enough. But with Scottish Derby winner Nambisco and four length first round winner Yahoo Jamie in fine form, it would definitely not be a selection that the life savings should be plunged on.

Heat 13

ORAN LEGEND (nb) unleashed a ferocious turn of foot down the back straight in the first round that threw him into the top-end of the outright betting market.  If he could trap considerably better his Derby-winning credentials would rise even further. But it is not essential for him to bolt out of the traps in this race as the standard of the competition is not of the highest. Kinda Easy can continue his good form for champion trainer Mark Wallis and Farloe Titan should have enough to progress also.

Heat 14

Toomaline Jack blew away his rivals in the first round with a five length victory that was full of pace and power. However, he is a very short price and preference goes to BARNFIELD ROCKY who represents a much better value proposition at the available odds. He found a lot of trouble in his opening race and his time still broke the 29 second barrier, which suggests with a bit more luck in running the selection has a lot going for it. Bosscroker is a decent animal on its day and can snatch the final qualifying spot.

Heat 15

A valid case could be made for all of these, with the market probably providing the best indication of who will run well.  FAYPOINT MAN ran very well in the first round, winning in his easily despite missing the break. There’s every reason to expect an improvement from that run and baring early trouble should make all from his wide draw. Give Mesome Luck is a highly rated sort and should go well, as should Jordansolutions.

Heat 16

Better is expected from Millies Hawk, who failed to live up to her impressive trial time’s last time out, but looks a risky choice considering an unfavorable draw once again. Preference is for ROMEO REASON who can make the most of his early pace to grab the rails. The selection ran a time of 28.92secs in the first round but ran three tenths of a second faster in the trial, so an improvement could be in the offing.  Tullymurry Act should also keep his Derby dream alive.
