Williamhill.com St Leger semi-final at Wimbledon
Wimbledon will host the semi-finals of the Williamhill.com St Leger Tuesday. The top three hounds from each semi-final will advance to the £8000 final on 26 October.
Williamhill.com St Leger 1st Semi-final
Lottes Girl won her quarter-final race Friday, but didn’t lead until after the fifth bend. She’s 4-1 in this semi-final, and she’ll have a difficult time reaching the final with a field of strong racers going against her. She’ll race from trap one.
In trap two is Droopys Bradley at 5-2, who lost his quarter-final race by a shoulder to Baran Pimlico. Bradley had taken the lead on the first bend, but lost it as the two dogs approached the finish line. One positive note for Bradley is that he beat Kinda
Easy, who took third.
Shaws Dilemma will go from trap three, currently with the same odds as Bradley. Dilemma won her quarter-final with little difficulty.
Baran Pimlico will take on Bradley and Dilemma from trap four. The three should all advance to the final, and Baran is the odds-on favourite to win this semi-final at 9-4, but both Bradley and Dilemma are going to be tough to beat. A good start from Baran,
and punters that bet on him are going to be very happy.
Mercury Rose will race form trap five as a 16-1 long shot. On Friday, Rose was slow from the traps, but still managed to take third place. She won’t be able to squeak into the finals with anything other than a fantastic start Tuesday.
Another long shot, Blonde Blitz at 16-1, drew trap six. Blitz won her quarter-final in a race that saw its race favourite, Bodell Clare, finish in last place. It was later discovered that Clare had tonsillitis, and her loss was blamed on that. If four or
five hounds in this heat get tonsillitis, Blitz could win her second race of the St Leger.
Williamhill.com St Leger 2nd Semi-final
Droopys Had will race from trap one in the second semi-final. Had is a 12-1 long shot in this race, and needed Clare’s tonsillitis to help him earn his spot in this semi-final.
In trap two is Fawkham Emperor at 6-1. Fawkham stumbled out of the traps in his quarter-final, but was still able to take the lead on the second bend. He later lost it to Lottes Girl, but the quick recovery was impressive nonetheless.
Bower Hawk is also sitting at 6-1. He was close to beating Blitz in his quarter-final, but this isn’t horseshoes. The competition will be tougher in this race, and if you like the 6-1 odds, go with Fawkham. Hawk will race from trap three.
In trap four is Razzmatazz at 9-2. He’s got good odds considering he’s going up against Kinda Easy and He Went Whoosh. He could take second or third in this race, but it’s going to be tough for him to win.
In trap five is He Went Whoosh. He’s 4-1 and the best bet to beat Easy. He didn’t look as good as he could have last week, taking third spot after getting lost in the crowd on the first bend, but don’t count him out yet. If punters force Easy’s odds down,
Whoosh could turn into a good long shot to take a chance on.
Friday’s quarter-final saw Kinda Easy finish in third place, his worst finish since 15 July. He’ll be looking to rebound in this one, and he probably will from trap six. The payout on him won’t be big with his 11-10 odds, but the payout on the other racers
will be zero if Easy wins.
