Heat one
There are plenty of reasons to oppose favourite Mesedo Blue, who is unbeaten to date but has benefited from two lightning starts. What worries me is his first-round run, where he showed that he can be found sleeping from the traps. A repeat of that tonight could prove troublesome as he has two fast-starting animals either side of him. The four dog, Moneygall Obama, ran a cracker behind Mesedo Blue in the last round and there is every reason to suggest he will go well again. But preference is for GLENARD SUNRISE who is proven at this stage of the competition following last year’s successful campaign, where he finished fifth in the final.

Heat two
BAREFOOT BULLET (nb) has been a joy to watch up until now, and could be open to improve on his 28.54secs run in the third round. Word is spreading that the selection could be the real deal, and Pat Hennessy’s runner could go on to win the competition. Granted a cleat run, Romeo Reason has the ability to continue his impressive form from the third round. Slick Robert is improving with every race and can also qualify for Saturday’s semi-finals.

Heat three
TOOMALINE JACK (nap) left a big impression on the competition following his track-record run of 28.25secs last week. The selection should put the competition to bed within the first five seconds of this heat if he traps half as well as his previous races suggest. Krug Ninety Five does his best work at the finish and should stay on for second, while Roo Come On can snatch third.

Heat four
TRANQUIL TIME can cause a bit of an upset in the final race of the evening. The selection has been impressive in his previous two races considering his slow start from the traps. If he can get reproduce the knack of starting sharply, odds-on favourite Bandicoot Tipoki may be in trouble from the lids. Farloe Skywalker, who performed admirably in the Puppy Derby earlier in the year, can take advantage of being the only wide seed in the race.
