Williamhill.com greyhound Derby third-round preview
Heat one
An enthralling encounter to start the evening’s racing with the battle to gain the lead at the first bend crucial in deciding the winner of this one. Both FOREST BOSS and Mesedo Blue have impressed up to now, both should qualify but the verdict just goes to Frank Black’s runner down to the consistent nature of his trapping. Moneygall Obama has failed to get his neck in front in the previous two races but possesses enough ability to continue the Derby dream.

Heat two
GLENARD SUNRISE was impressive in defeat last week. Despite looking beaten turning for home, last year’s Derby finalist rallied in the late stages to suggest he is bouncing back to last season’s form. bettor.com Scottish Derby hero Nambisco runs from trap three but still has yet to convince me whether he is totally comfortable with the Plough Lane surroundings. Trainer Carly Philpott’s dreams of the £1million bonus offered by bettor.com could end as Nambisco may struggle to make the first three. Ministry Magic and Adageo possesses enough early dash to reach the quarter-finals.

Heat three
BANDICOOT TIPOKI (nap) is holding his form really well at the moment, and the current favourite for the Derby has landed a soft-looking heat. If he leads at the opening bend, a new track record could be on the cards. Barnfield Rocky has struggled with consistency but should have enough to progress and the same could be said for Farloe Titan.

Heat four
BAREFOOT BULLET is out to prove that his time of 28.49secs in the first round was no flash in the pan. Everything in the dog's profile suggests that performance was no fluke. The trap four draw does the selection no favours as he will run wide at the first bend, but there seems to be a lack of pace outside him to dampen those fears. Krug Ninety Five should run him close from a plum draw in the red jacket, and Bosscroker may go well at a big price.

Heat five
Tranquil Time and Kinda Easy have shown ability in their respective first two races and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see them romp home here. Tranquil Time looks as though he looks the most likely winner, but at the current prices (Evs) he represents no value whatsoever. BUBBLY TOTTI, who flirted with retirement for a while, has surprised a few people with his performances in the opening round and can make most of a great draw from trap six.

Heat six
Ten Large Down has long been considered the perfect Wimbledon competitor and should go well once again, but may find one too good in TYRUR SPEEDY – who can cause a bit of an upset in heat six. The selection was one of the front runners in the bettor.com Scottish Derby before he took a bad bump in the semi-finals and has been threatening to make a significant impression for a while now. Judical Pause should make up the three.

Heat seven
A wide-open heat with a short-price favourite, the perfect ingredients for a recipe to take on the market leader, who is Toomaline Jack. There is no doubting the ability of the high-class Irish raider and he should qualify for the quarter-finals, but it could prove a wise choice to by-pass him for this competitive heat. The dangers will come from all corners to the favourite, but the tentative nod goes to MOVEIT JAMIE, whose profile isn’t as glamorous as Irish puppy runner-up Westmead Grant or Irish Derby finalist Faypoint Man, but clocked an impressive time last time out and can put his case forward for a Derby success.

Heat eight
WESTMEAD SCOLARI (nb) showed his class when landing his first round heat in a time of 28.69secs. He runs the track superbly well and is likely to prove very hard to beat in this race. Lyreen Mover has attracted a lot of interest in the first two rounds and delivered with an impressive performance, despite sleeping from the traps. Sparklee Bertie ought to qualify as well.
