Williams CEO Adam Parr disappointed by Sam Michaels’ resignation: Formula One news
Williams’ CEO Adam Parr has expressed his disappointment over the resignation of the team's technical director, Sam Michaels. He labelled the development as a major blow for the team, but appreciated the role of Michaels over the years. The Grove-based outfit
has been below par in the 2011 Formula One season until now, as the team are without a single point after the opening three races.
Parr told reporters, “Sam and I have been talking through the situation from the beginning of the season and he came to the conclusion that he should stand down at the end of the year to give the team the opportunity to rebuild, renew itself and set the
right technical direction for the future.”
He further added, “With some reluctance I accepted his resignation, and that is because I am very fond of Sam. We have worked together for five years and I was looking forward to working alongside him for a long time in the future. So it has been a blow
personally, and for the team, to lose him.”
Michaels will be a part of the team until the end of the ongoing season and will look to improve the performance of Williams. He faced a nearly identical situation in the previous season, as the team got off to a terrible start, but managed to bounce back
towards the end.
The chairman of Williams expected a his team to turn things around in the upcoming races, as he had full faith in the team. He expected a much better start this year, but admitted that the team had failed to live up to expectations.
Although Parr predicted an improved show by the team in the remaining half of the season, he didn’t expect any major changes after that, as the team was aiming to build for the future.
The Grove-based team will bring some upgrades for the Turkish Grand Prix, which will take place on Sunday, 8th
May, 2011. Driver, Rubens Barrichello was optimistic about a turnaround for the team in the next race. He claimed that Williams had all the tools to score points with consistency, but were hindered by a few problems in the opening three outings.
