Williams Cosworth's Sam Michael wants changes in Team Williams: Formula One News
The technical director of Formula 1 team, Williams Cosworth, Sam Michael has called for some changes in the team’s structure in order to get the optimum performance from the outfit. He also hinted at a different role for himself with the team.
The start to the 2011 Formula 1 season has been disappointing for the British team, as their drivers Rubens Barrichello and Pastor Maldonado have been unable to score a single point.
Michael stated, “I think the job that we have done this year clearly is not good enough. There are lots of different reasons why. But either way, whatever team you are, I can easily see that where we are at the moment is not good enough and that falls down
to me. So, we are currently reviewing that inside Williams.”
The Australian further added, “What I would not be happy with doing would be not changing anything – even myself. Even if everyone said everything is perfect, I know it is not. So, I am not happy with the job that we have done as a group. I would review
that anyway – including myself.”
Michael said that he had chosen the entire technical team and if there were some performance issues, he was the most responsible person for that. He claimed that the final decision would be up to the team, but he will make decisions according to the best
of his understanding.
Williams will be bringing some major upgrades for the fourth race of the season in Turkey, which will take place on Sunday, May 8. The team was confident on an improved show, but admitted the challenges ahead.
Although Michael was unhappy with the low key start to the season for Williams, he was expecting a serious turn around in the Turkish Grand Prix. He mentioned the performance of McLaren-Mercedes, a team that has made a lot of progress since the pre-season
testing, as an example.
The Vodafone sponsored team managed to end the winning streak of the dominant Red Bull team. The reigning champions had won the first two races of the season and looked good in the third race; the Chinese Grand Prix. However, McLaren’s driver, Lewis Hamilton,
expressed the true potential of his team, winning the race after a thrilling performance.
