Williams F1 confident about regaining top form – Formula 1 news
Mark Gillan, the chief operations engineer for Williams F1 team, insists they will be back on top before the end of 2012 season.
Williams F1 team have been disappointed in the performance given by their drivers Pastor Maldonado and Bruno Senna. The season started off good for the team when despite accident issues for both drivers in the Australian Grand Prix, they were still able
to score points. Maldonado was also successful at scoring a race victory at the Spanish Grand Prix. Although, their recent performance in Korea was most miserable as both drivers failed to drive into Q3 and also score any points.
Gillan insists that their car was not the reason for the bad performance. “Over the season we have found the car to be competitive at most tracks; so it is something that was specific to Korea.” He said.
Gillan is very confident about returning to the top before the current season ends. “I really do hope that, at the end of the season, we are back at the sharp end of the grid and I can see no reason why we cannot be. Within Williams there is a great desire,
once we have any issues, to sort them out. As you saw at the end of last season, we had a lot of problems and we got on top of them.”
Maldonado has also expressed his wish to struggle for his team recently. He stated that he wants to bring good form to Williams F1 and also wishes to a win a championship before he has to quit. Senna, who has been under more speculation than his teammate,
was also hopeful that the team will retain him for the next season. Williams F1 have been considering many options for the driver line up of next season as both drivers’ contract ends when this season finishes.
The team is standing at eight position in the constructors’ championship while both Maldonado and Senna are at the fifteenth and sixteenth positions respectively on the drivers’ grid. Gillan said that their current target is to be successful at driving in
Q3 no matter what kind of track they get.
