Williams’ Mark Gillan says they have enjoyed quite an excellent couple of weeks – Formula 1 news
Williams’ chief operations engineer Mark Gillan says that the team has enjoyed quite an excellent couple of weeks during the Formula 1 pre-season testing.
The results from the testing proved out to be quite promising for the team as it had been working hard to improve its performance for the upcoming 2012 Formula 1 season staring in Melbourne as compared to the last year’s season which was quite dejected for
the team.
Moreover, new management structure and design team of Williams’ had been effectively handling the procedures for making the significant improvements in the car for the forthcoming season.
Gillan said that he was extremely pleased with the performance of Maldonado and the data which was gathered during the testing sessions. Moreover, he said that Maldonado completed quite a competitive race simulation.
“We’ve had a really productive day’s testing to end an excellent couple of weeks. Today Pastor went through a competitive race simulation and both the car and he performed very well, ending the day with some long run comparisons. We have gathered a prodigious
amount of data over more than 3500kms of testing and we will now regroup back at the factory to understand how to further improve the set-up and development direction ahead of the next Barcelona test,” said Gillan.
Williams’ driver Pastor Maldonado set the fastest lap time of 1 minute and 22.391 seconds on Thursday during the second test held at Circuit de Catalunya, Barcelona and covered over 100 laps on consecutive days of the test.
However, Sauber driver Kamui Kobayashi broke the record of Maldonado on the final day of second test with fastest lap time of 1 minute and 22.312 seconds while Maldonado finished second with the lap time of 1 minute and 22.561 seconds.
Nevertheless, after the test drive, Maldonado said that he had a positive feeling for the team and expressed that there was no problem with the car.
Furthermore, he said that he would come back for the next week’s test and hope to have good time on track.
“We now have a great deal of data to analyse so we will keep pushing to improve our car for the next test,” said Maldonado.
