Williams’ Pastor Maldonado hoping for another points finish at the Italian Grand Prix – Formula 1
Williams’ driver Pastor Maldonado has recently stated that he is confident about his chances of scoring even more points at the upcoming Italian Grand Prix which is expected to take place this coming weekend after a pretty decent Belgian Grand Prix.
“It is a wonderful track, especially because it is so quick, one of the quickest of the year. It is a low-downforce circuit so you need a good aero balance for that. As we showed at Spa-Francorchamps, our car is working well on these types of tracks so I
hope to be in the points again this weekend,” he said.
Maldonado secured his first Formula 1 points at the Spa-Francorchamps despite the fact that his teammate Rubens Barrichello was unable to secure a single point.
Williams are going through an extremely disappointing Formula 1 season this year as they are at the least points scoring team in the constructors’ standings and are just ahead of the three new teams of the sport namely Team Lotus, Hispania Racing Team and
Virgin Racing Team.
However, Maldonado is quite confident about the Italian Grand Prix and he is hoping for some pretty good results this coming weekend.
“Monza is a very special circuit for me and I have great memories of winning there in Formula Renault 3.5 in 2006. I used to live very close to the track so I am looking forward to seeing many Venezuelan and Italian friends there this weekend,” said the
Venezuelan driver.
Barrichello secured the first points for the team at the Monaco Grand Prix followed by another point finish at the Canadian Grand Prix. Since then, the team did not secure a single point and Pastor Maldonado was also being criticised immensely since he did
not perform up to the mark either.
Nevertheless, one has to admit that the team should be blamed for this disappointing result rather than the drivers as they did not come up with a good car and now they are going to suffer until the end of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
