Williams’ Sam Michael, Rubens Barrichello happy with upgrades for Canadian Grand Prix – Formula 1
Williams’ technical director Sam Michael has said that team’s upgrades for the Canadian Grand Prix of the 2011 Formula 1 season have paid off in the practice sessions which is a positive thing for them.
Williams’ Formula 1 driver Rubens Barrichello has also said that the pace of their car was good in the practice sessions but still a lot of work is to be done to make it to the Q3 on Saturday.
The team opted to upgrade their front wing, rear wing and rear diffuser which worked well in the Friday practice sessions.
The Brazilian driver was able to bag more than 50 laps in the two practice sessions on Friday. His teammate Pastor Maldonado was also able to bag some good mileage and gathered important data on the upgrades.
Michael commented on the performance and said, “Even with the red flags, we had a really productive day with both cars. We evaluated front wings, rear wings and diffusers throughout both sessions and happily all of the new parts are working well.”
Barrichello was also happy about the car and said, “We seem to be in better shape here and that might give us a couple of positions over the weekend. We will still have to work hard to make it into Q3 tomorrow, but I think it is achievable.”
Williams’ performance in the opening five races of the 2011 championship was forgettable as the team was unable to score even a single point from both of its drivers.
In the Monaco Grand Prix, Maldonado was driving well on the semi-street track and was on course to finish in fifth position. However, his run ended when he had an accident with McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton.
However, Barrichello was able to score the first points for the Williams team in the 2011 Formula 1 season in Monte Carlo. It will be interesting to see how Williams perform in the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix scheduled to be held on June 12, 2011.
