Williams’ Sam Michael says revised exhaust system to be used for Silverstone GP – Formula 1 news
Williams’ technical director Sam Michael has stated that his team will try out two diffusers for the Silverstone Grand Prix of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Sam stated that as the ban on the blown diffuser is going to be implemented from Silverstone, Williams’ will try out different setups of diffuser and also a new front wing.
Sam also stated that the new exhaust system was going to be tested in the Valencia GP practice session but was not used after reviewing the data. Sam also stated that the engine mapping clampdown rule for the Valencia GP restricted the team from some setups
but still Williams’ did not suffer much as Rubens Barrichello was the second fastest driver coming out of the speed trap.
Barrichello qualified in 13th place but his pace, under the engine mapping restriction, was the second fastest coming out of the Drag Reduction System zone which was a positive sign for the Williams team.
Talking about Barrichello and Pastor Maldonado’s run in Valencia, Sam stated, “Both our drivers performed well this weekend. Pastor had a puncture during his first stint which forced him into an early pit stop and a change in strategy from a two to a three
stop.”
Although both Williams’ cars were unable to land among points, still the performance of the cars over the weekend was quite impressive.
Talking about the Silverstone Grand Prix- team Williams’ home race, Sam stated, “We have a new front wing and revised diffuser for Silverstone. We will test two diffusers on Friday with the new off-throttle ban coming into play, as well as testing various
new over-run maps. We are going to Kemble to undertake some additional aero testing in preparation for our home event.”
Williams are currently tenth on the constructors’ table with 4 points- all of which came from Barrichello.
The ninth race of the 2011 Formula 1 season is going to be contested in Silverstone on July 10, 2011.
