Williams Sisters reach the Women’s Doubles semi-final – Wimbledon Championships 2012
Legendary American tennis icons, the Williams Sisters have came together once again after a long time in the professional circuit and their voyage has been sublime so far at the Wimbledon Championships. Serena and Venus Williams
have made it to the semi-final round of the Women’s Doubles category at the grass court Grand Slam event in London, England. The unseeded Americans outplayed their fellow compatriots, the 10th seeded combination of Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail
Spears in crushing straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, in the quarter-final draw.
It was a completely one-sided affair, with the hard-hitting Williams Sisters dominating every minute of it. The 10th seeded Americans stood no chance against the fiery serve game of their opponents and could barely win
two games in the entire matchup to finish on the losing side in a dismal manner. Serena and Venus dropped merely two points on their fast first serve, winning 22 out of 24 to get the upper hand in the contest. They nailed five out of 10 break points in the
matchup, whilst Kops Jones and Spears utterly failed to even construct a single break opportunity.
"Winning the title would be so awesome," Serena said after winning the doubled quarter-final brawl. "We're having so much fun. We played really well today, actually. We're really enjoying ourselves, and we hope that we can win
two more matches in doubles."
Serena is in explosive form this season and has also booked a spot in the final of the Women’s Singles category as well. She outmuscled the reigning world number two, Victoria Azarenka, in the semi-finals, 6-3, 7-6(6), to yield
a title shot in the final of the Wimbledon Championships to be played this weekend. She will play against the world number three, Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland, in the title match.
Winner of four Singles and four Doubles Wimbledon titles, Serena is focusing for her huge match against the third seed pole but a doubles title victory prior to the big match will certainly uplift her confidence to a whole new
level. Venus is still struggling with her form and fitness, suffering an early exit from the singles draw, and it leave Serena to perform most of the work in the doubles semi-final clash on Friday.
