Williams Sisters to encounter in the semi-final clash – Family Circle Cup 2013
Family Circle Cup 2013 enters the semi-final round after a lot of upsets and the two legendary American veterans are to go one on one yet again this weekend. The reigning world number one, Serena Williams, will compete against
her elder sister, Venus Williams, for a spot in the title match of the WTA Premier-level tournament in Charleston, USA.
It is always a treat to watch both of these top class players facing each other. Serena already leads 13-10 against her former world number one sister and is all geared up to extend her lead in Saturday’s contest. The top seeded
American has won all the last four encounters against Venus and is looking to defend her Charleston title.
"It was really motivating to see Venus win today - I figured if she can win two matches, I have no excuse not to win my two matches," Williams said afterwards. "It's actually not that bad to play two matches in one day - it's not
ideal, but I play doubles all the time, and so I looked at it like, 'Okay, I play singles and I play with Venus in doubles the same day.' So really that's how I looked at it."
With a sublime form and 18-2 winning record in the running season, Serena is clearly the hot favourite for winning the semi-final against the fifth seeded fellow compatriot. It is also anticipated by some tennis lovers that Venus
will not give up that easily and will surely drag the match into the third set. However, the 32-year-old hasn’t been seen in her top gear in the recent past and it might not last more than two sets against the fury of Serena. The top seeded veteran has won
all her matches in straight sets, annihilating her all opponents comprehensively. She outclassed the sixth seeded Czech, Lucie Safarova, in the quarter-finals, while Venus dumped Madison Keys of USA to book a date with the defending champion.
The other semi-final will be contested between the former world number one, Jelena Jankovic, and the unseeded Swiss underdog, Stefanie Vogele, on Saturday as well.
