‘Williams’ adamant to rise back to glory - Sir Frank Williams (Part 2)
Contd. From Part1
Moreover, the rookie driver, Nico Hulkenberg has also given a pretty impressive season to the outfit. The start of the season saw him lull away, by mid season he started to gain momentum, but as the season reached its last and
final stage the driver shocked everyone by his marvelous performance. The impressive performance at the qualifying of the Brazilian Grand Prix granted him the first pole of his career, while the team had their first in the last five years.
Although his remarkable performance had not been able to secure his place in the team for next season yet, Williams very openly stated that the entire crew is not only glad but also very mush impressed by the rookies’ achievement.
While talking about his debut year, the team principal said, "As far as Nico is concerned, he did a great job in his rookie year and drove several strong races. A lot of the time it was not his fault because the car was not good
enough. I am sure he has a strong career ahead of him."
Although the team embraced a very struggling and frustrating season for a number of reasons, Williams still seems hopeful. The last year saw the squad lose its major sponsor RBS, which left the team in a very pressing financial
situation. For the upcoming year the team sees a tiny ray of hope thanks to some recent advancements. Earlier this year, the team inaugurated a technology centre in Qatar and is now hopeful of getting some financial relief with the help of this new venture.
"I'm very pleased with that [technology centre]. It's up and running although not fully equipped yet. Primarily we're using that area for development of our flywheel which is a kinetic energy R&D project. And there's absolutely
no problem with the budget at all for next season so we're happy about that,” the team boss said.
Sir Frank Williams has seen and helped no fewer than seven drivers in his outfit to raise them to the Championship. Owing to the vast experience and immense knowledge of the auto race expert, he was asked about the new World Champion,
for whom on a number of occasions he has openly declared that Sebastian Vettel has a lot of potential. Williams continued saying that he has always rated this young German very highly, even when he was very new in the sport. The expert of the Formula One world
is of the view that the 23-year-old still has a long way to go and he could win many more titles and championships in the years to come.
He further added that in addition to the immense talent he possesses, Vettel is also lucky to be attached to the right team. Red Bull is believed to have a genius working combination and that somebody like Adrian Newey, the chief
car designer for the team can make a big difference in Vettel’s career.
While talking about the other leading names in the sport these days, Williams said that he is not really a big fan of Fernando Alonso. He agrees to the fact that Alonso is a great racer on the tack but he believes that he lacks
the respect and regard he should have for his seniors.
Moreover, the team boss also does not see a certain title win for Mark Webber. He thinks that being in the Red Bull squad might create another winning opportunity for him but it seems like he has had his best chance this year.
However, the Formula One guru stated that the racing drivers are very unpredictable individuals and must never be underestimated.
Concluding his interview, Sir Frank Williams said that it is always encouraging to see a lot of people who love to see the team come back to the front of Formula One, and this is the biggest impetus for the entire crew to keep
working really hard.
