Williams aim fight back in the 2012 Italian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Williams’ chief operations engineer, Mark Gillan has said that they are feeling very much confident and are aiming to fight back in the 2012 Italian Grand Prix after facing immense disappointment in the Belgian GP.
The Grove based team could not score even a single point in the last race held at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. Although, their driver, Pastor Maldonado performed incredibly well during the qualifying of the preceding race and secured third grid position.
However, he had an accident during the fourth lap which caused his retirement and he failed to pocket any points.
On the other hand, his teammate, Bruno Senna was performing quite well during the race but due to a tyre puncture, he couldn’t secure a finish amongst top ten positions and came 12th in the charts.
Furthermore, it will be important to mention that Maldonado will be facing two five-place grid penalties in the Italian GP because of his crash with Timo Glock of Marussia.
Nevertheless, Gillan has said that they have learnt a lot from their mistakes in the past and are hopeful that they will be able to strike back in the approaching races. In addition, he said that they are making the best of the preparations so as to attain
competitive results in the upcoming race at Monza.
“The weekend promised a lot so to come away with no points is disappointing,” he said. “I am proud of the effort that the whole team has put in over this difficult weekend and whilst we ultimately didn't score points we have learnt a lot and should therefore
be stronger in Monza as a result of this. We are aiming to get both cars home in the points and provided we have a trouble free weekend there are no reasons why this cannot be achieved.”
Besides, he said that they are extremely happy with the performance of the Venezuelan driver at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. Additionally, he defended the stance of Maldonado and said that his fingers slipped by mistake from the paddle of his car’s clutch
which caused the jump, eventually resulting in the crash.
