Williams aim to perform with consistency in 2013 – Formula 1 news
Williams driver Pastor Maldonado has said that they are aiming to perform with consistency in the 2013 Formula 1 season despite facing difficulties in the last year.
Maldonado managed to secure his maiden victory in the 2012 Spanish Grand Prix after claiming his first ever pole position. Furthermore, he brought the Grove based squad their first win since 2004 and became the first ever Venezuelan driver to score a race
victory in F1.
However, he failed to score points with consistency and struggled with his pace in many grands prix due to which he could not secure a competitive position in the last year’s championship.
In addition, he faced a lot of criticism over his rough driving style due to which many accidents happened during the year for which he was even penalised in few races.
Nevertheless, he has asserted that he is not feeling disappointed over his performance in the preceding season and is positively looking forward to perform well for his team in this year’s championship.
Besides, he said that they are working really hard to develop a competent car for this season in order to compete well with their rivals and to attain consistent results.
“Starting my third season with Williams is important for both myself and the team,” Maldonado said. “We've been working hard to develop the car and improve our performance. Last year we won a race and were competitive, but this season we must be even more
competitive which I believe is possible. Consistency will be our aim to close the gap to the teams in front.”
Additionally, he said that there have been few changes in the team as he has a new race engineer and a new teammate, Valtteri Bottas. However, he insisted that they are like a team and he is hoping to get along well with everyone in this season.
“There are a number of changes this season; I have a new Race Engineer and a new team-mate in Valtteri, but there is a nice atmosphere right now as we are all competitive and know each other well,” he added.
