Williams aiming for point finishes at Chinese Grand Prix – Sam Michael
Team Williams’ Technical Director, Sam Michael, has recently stated that his team is targeting top ten places during both the qualifying session and race of the upcoming Chinese Grand Prix 2011.
Since Sam stated that the team is hoping to qualify in the top ten, this means that he thinks his team is good enough to make it to the Q3 session, which the team has been unable to do up until now.
During the first grand prix of the season that took place in Australia, both Rubens Barrichello and Pastor Maldonado were unable to make it to the Q3 session and during the Malaysian Grand Prix, Pastor was unable to make it to the Q2 session even, which
is between the fastest 17 drivers during the qualifying session.
Other than that, both of the drivers were nowhere near the top ten up until now during the qualifying session but still, Sam believes that they will improve their performance after reviewing the reasons for their failure up until now.
“We are still aiming for a top ten qualifying performance and to get some points on the board in Shanghai. We also have a new exhaust system for Rubens' car that we will test and evaluate on Friday”, said Michael.
On the other hand, Barrichello believes that the team is yet to show its full potential and that he is optimistic about the new updates the team is going to apply on its new car before the Chinese Grand Prix. He believes that the upgrades will allow him
to challenge further up the grid possibly for points as well.
“We have an upgrade to the car this weekend, which I hope will improve our speed and overall performance. It hasn't been a good start to the season for us as we are yet to finish a race where we belong, but I'm hoping the upgrade will help us to move forward”,
said Rubens.
Since the beginning of the 2011 Formula 1 season, it seems that nothing has changed in terms of pace since the first race until now and it seems that it is going to be more of a two horse race between McLaren and Red Bull Racing Team for the titles.
