Williams aiming to fight for twin points finish in 2011 Japanese Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Team Williams is aiming to fight for twin points finish in the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix, which will begin from October 7, 2011 at the Suzuka circuit.
Williams new chief operations engineer Mark Gillan talked to the media and said that they are looking forward to score some points in the next races for their best possible ending in the 2011 championship battle.
The team is busy and working on their FW33 car for their better results in the 2011 Japanese race weekend.
Talking to reporters, Gillan commented, “Our levels of understanding regarding the drivability issues of the FW33 have increased significantly since Singapore and we are currently working hard to optimise the set-up and improve the car going into the Japanese
GP.”
He went on to mention, “We obviously need to ensure that the car operates in the optimal aerodynamic window - this is fundamental to maximising our performance and we aim to be fighting for a points finish with both cars.”
The Grove-based outfit has been unable to finish a single race on the podium in the season so far. The team made a lot of improvement in terms of performance during the races since the start of the season, but has managed only three points’ finishes so far
in the title fight.
Apart from that, both Williams’ drivers Rubens Barrichello and Pastor Maldonado are aiming to produce some points for their team in the rest of the ongoing season.
In the 2011 Singapore Grand Prix, Maldonado tried his best to finish his race under the top ten positions, but their rivals were faster as compared to them and he could not do that.
After starting the race from the 13th place on the opening grid, Maldonado ended up in the 11th spot in Singapore.
His teammate Barrichello finished his Singapore Grand Prix at the 13th position after starting from the 12th place on the grid.
After taking part in the 14 races of the 2011 Formula 1 season, Williams are placed at the ninth place with only 5 points in the constructors’ championship.
Let’s see how Williams perform at the Suzuka circuit in Japan this weekend.
