Williams aiming to hit back in 2012 European Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Williams’ chief operations engineer, Mark Gillan has said that they are aiming to hit back in 2012 European Grand Prix which is to be held at Valencia Street Circuit in Spain on June 24, after facing difficulties in the last two races.
Gillan said that they have been trying their best to make the necessary advancements and the considerable preparations so as to improve the pace of their car in order to strike back in the approaching races. Moreover, he said that the tyre management is
going to be very important on the track of the next race.
“Following the last two sets of race results we are keen to continue to demonstrate our team's improvement and ensure both cars come home in the points,” said Chief Operations Engineer, Mark Gillan. “Valencia proves a difficult track for both driver and
car and with the expected large track evolution throughout the weekend tyre management will once more be crucial. The track layout places a lot of stress on the braking system and the high ambient temperatures, coupled with a lower than average mean speed,
forces one to open up the cooling package.”
The British team is currently standing at 7th position in the constructors’ championship with 44 points. Additionally, they are 16 points ahead of Force India and 14 points behind their main rival in the midfield, Sauber-Ferrari.
Meanwhile, their driver, Pastor Maldonado is at 10th place in the drivers’ rankings with 29 points between Sauber pair of drivers, Sergio Perez and Kamui Kobayashi.
Furthermore, the Venezuelan driver took his maiden victory in the Spanish GP held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona after claiming his first ever pole position. However, he has not been able to score even a single point in the last two grands prix.
On the other hand, his teammate, Bruno Senna is at 13th position in the drivers’ championship with 15 points. In addition, he is 4 points ahead of Felipe Massa of Ferrari and 6 points behind Paul di Resta of Force India.
Over and above, they are positively looking forward to perform well in the upcoming races so as to make their position stronger in this year’s title fight.
