Williams believes Bruno Senna can improve his qualifying pace in the season ahead – Formula 1 news
Williams believes that their driver, Bruno Senna can improve his qualifying pace in 2012 Formula 1 season ahead after performing quite convincingly in the British Grand Prix at Silverstone Circuit.
Senna has not been able to make his way into the third session of qualifying in the season until now. However, the chief operations engineer, Mark Gillan said that they are pleased with the performance of the Brazilian driver in the last race in which he secured 9th place finish after setting off from the 13th grid position.
Moreover, Gillan said that they will provide Senna everything which he may need to improve his qualifying performance in the races ahead.
In addition, he said that they are positively looking forward to perform well in the German GP which is to be held at Hockenheimring on July 22.
“Bruno had a very good race and was particularly strong both at the start and in the last part of the race when he was fighting hard for the ninth place,” said Gillan. “We continue to work with Bruno in the simulator and with the race programme to help him optimise his qualifying pace and I think that he can take a lot of positives from Silverstone into Hockenheim. He was unlucky not to progress into the final qualifying session when his hot timed lap was severely compromised by the yellow flag.”
At present, Bruno is standing at 15th place in the drivers’ championship with 18 points. Besides, he is just 1 point ahead of Nico Hulkenberg of Force India and 3 points behind Kamui Kobayashi of Sauber.
Although, he has not been able to secure a podium finish in the season so far, nevertheless, he is focussing to deliver his best in the season ahead to make his position stronger in the championship fight.
On the other hand, his teammate, Pastor Maldonado is at 10th place in the drivers’ rankings with 29 points. Additionally, the Venezuelan driver claimed his maiden victory in the Spanish GP.
Even though, he has been seen struggling in the last few grands prix, nonetheless, he is aiming to strike back in the season ahead.
