Williams’ board member Toto Wolff says they are committed to Bruno Senna – Formula 1 news
Williams’ board member Toto Wolff has said that they are committed to their driver Bruno Senna and dismissed all the speculations that the Brazilian driver’s seat in the team is at risk if he does not improve his performance in the forthcoming races.
Senna struggled during 2012 Spanish Grand Prix held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona as he could not even make his way into the second session of the qualifying and secured 17th grid position. Moreover, he could not be able to score even a single point
in the race as he was retired after his collision with Michael Schumacher of Mercedes.
On the other hand, his teammate, Pastor Maldonado took his maiden victory in the Spanish GP after starting the race from the pole position.
Afterwards, it was reported that Williams are considering their test driver, Valtteri Bottas as a potential replacement for struggling Senna. However, Wolff expressed support for their driver and discharged all the rumours.
“We are not replacing anybody,” Wolff said. “We have contracts with two drivers, and we are supporting our drivers as much as we can and as well as we can.”
Furthermore, he said that they are ready to provide everything to their pair of drivers which they may need to improve their performance in the upcoming races.
“The decision to take on Bruno and Pastor was a very carefully taken one and we will push on not do some exercise. With Valtteri, we are going through a development school and the decision to run him on Fridays was carefully decided. We are not going to
burn him up by putting him in a situation that we think is not appropriate. So the rumours are rubbish,” he said.
Williams are presently standing at 6th position in the constructors’ championship with 43 points and they are two points ahead of their major rival Sauber-Ferrari. In addition, they have emerged as one of the most competent midfield contenders in this season.
Over and above, the victory in the last race has rebuild the confidence of the British team and they are positively looking forward to perform well in the approaching races so as to secure a competitive finish in this year’s championship fight.
